He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
