He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
