He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
