He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man therefore consider the sources of his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
