He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
