He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
