He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
