He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
