He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
