He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
