The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And Paradise brought near, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and brightening morning, 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 nor is it a word of an accursed Satan. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
