When the sun shall be darkened, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 and when the girl-child that was buried alive is made to ask 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 and when the scrolls [of men's deeds] are unfolded, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when Hellfire is set ablaze 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 Those that run [their courses] and disappear - 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 He (Muhammad) is not accused of lying about the unseen. 24 The Quran is not the word of condemned satan. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 It is not except a reminder to the worlds 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 And what will you wish, except if Allah wills – the Lord of the Creation. 29
