The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
When the sun is wound up; 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 and when the mountains are moved, 3 And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 And when souls are reunited, 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 And when the pages are made public 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 by the night when it approaches 17 and the morning when it extends, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 And ye shall not will unless it be that Allah, the Lord of the worlds, willeth. 29
