The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies), 7 And when the girl buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was killed 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the heaven is torn away. 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Where then are you going? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
