The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 On a grievous day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" 13 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 and when they returned to their own people, they would speak of them jestingly; 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 On adorned couches, observing. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? 36
