The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 On a mighty Day. 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. 7 And what could make thee conceive what that that mode inescapable will be? 8 It is a written book. 9 Ah the woe that day for those who deny, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed. 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded for what they did? 36
