The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 unto a mighty day 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe on that day to the rejecters, 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 No one denies it except for the evil aggressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A Register inscribed. 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On couches, gazing, 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
