The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 On a mighty Day. 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 Nay, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 Thou wilt recognize in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, -- 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
