The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
