The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
