The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 in obedience to the commands of its Lord which are incumbent on it, (the human being will receive due recompense for his deeds). 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
