The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 when earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
