۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
