The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
