The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
