The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)

۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
