The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 thinking he would never revert (to Us). 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
