The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
