The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 This is a fact. Their Lord is Well-Aware of (all that they do). 15 I do not need to swear by the sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
