The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sky (bespangled) with the signs of the Zodiac, 1 and [then bethink thyself of] the promised Day, 2 And by the witnessing day (i.e. Friday), and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat (Hajj) the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]; 3 Perish the fellows of the ditch, 4 with fire abounding in fuel, 5 When they sat by it 6 and they were witnesses of what they did to the believers 7 Against these they had no grudge except that they believed in Allah, the Most Mighty, the Most Praiseworthy, 8 Whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is a Witness of all things. 9 Those who persecuted the believing men and women and never repented, there is for them the punishment of Gehenna (Hell), and for them the punishment of the burning. 10 Surely for those who believe and do the right are gardens with rivers running by. That is the greatest success. 11 The grip of your Lord is severe indeed! 12 Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth, 13 And He is the Fogiving, the Loving, 14 Honorable Owner of the Throne, 15 Who does as He pleases. 16 Has the story reached you of the hosts, 17 [Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud? 18 The unbelievers are indeed engaged in denying it, calling it a lie, 19 God encompasses them from all sides. 20 Aye! it is a Recitation glorious, 21 In a guarded tablet. 22
