CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 It is the piercing star - 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 which comes out of the loins and ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 And it is not amusement. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 Therefore give them some respite – give them some time. 17
