Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and arranged cushions 15 And linen spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
