Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
