Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
