Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
