Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a high Garden. 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets set forth 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
