Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
