Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And cups put in place 14 and arranged cushions 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
