Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
