Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
