Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
