Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a high Garden. 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
