Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
