Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
