Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
