Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
