Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
