Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
