Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
