Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
